So, after that album, life happened, as it always does; there were big changes and my comfortable, vaguely melancholic life, was no longer an option. And right on time, I read Mihaley Csikszenmihalyi’s Flow for the first proper time and it became clear that the best way to answer the ideas in that book was to start singing and playing again.
And so, I made Spilt Milk for the excellent Fortuna Pop label, helmed by the estimable Sean Price, who’s taste is something I’m very gratified to have benefited from. After this I signed with Tapete Records, continuing what was for me, an unbroken run of working with labels – Creation, Matador, Heavenly, Fortuna Pop - where the music always comes first. The fact that they were based in Hamburg felt very right as this was where my mother’s German roots were and large parts of my childhood were spent.
Tapete released One for the Ghost in 2018. On it, I was lucky enough to have a band consisting of and Franic and Jonny from The Wave Pictures, along with James from Ultimate Painting and Pam from Withered Hand.
Before my upcoming album, Time on Earth, I released You Made Me on my own Faux Lux label, bringing together cover versions of brilliant songs by everyone from Cat Power to Elvis.
